Welcome

I’m new at this blogging stuff, so bear with me while I learn what the heck I’m doing. I plan to use these pages to post some of my stories and pictures of my family as well as some crocheted items and maybe a pattern or two.

About eight weeks ago I sent a short story called “Primo Gusto Surprise” to Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine. It was part of my final exam in my creative writing class. I figure the longer it takes to hear from them the closer I am to being published. At least I like to tell myself that it wasn’t rejected with the first read.

I also sent a story titled “Lucky Sevens” to the Kamelian, a literary magazine published annually by Kishwaukee College. The deadline for that contest is January 24th so it will be awhile before I hear from them. About seven of my classmates sent their stories to the Kamelian for their final, so I have lots of competition.

I am semi-retired, which means I need to work part-time in order to eat and pay the rent. I am employed as a Library Reference Assistant and am in charge of all the Interlibrary Loan materials in the Kishwaukee College Library in Malta, Illinois. “Kish” is a two year community college which many students prefer to the larger universities. My daughter-in-law, Eileen received her RN in two years here and is now charge nurse in one of the nations premiere heart hospitals. Her son, Troy will be entering the program when he graduates from high school in 2009. More about my kids and grandkids later. We are having family pictures taken today, so I will be posting it soon. I am including a picture of the staff of our small but powerful academic library.
